Job Descriptions

President

This position involves a 3 year commitment. In the first year, this individual will act as the Vice President, in the second year this individual will become the President, and in the third year this individual will become the Treasurer. The President acts as the managing Director and spokesperson for the CAVM. The President is required to know the Roberts Rules of Order and ensure these rules are followed in the general member meetings.

Duties of the President include but are not limited to: act as chairperson and attend director and general meetings of the CAVM, frequent written, email and telephone correspondence, represent the CAVM at veterinary events and meetings that are of interest to the CAVM, and act as a signing authority for the CAVM bank account(s) as well as the Treasurer and the Vice President (2 of 3 signatures required).

Vice-President

This position involves a 3 year commitment. In the first year, this individual will be the Vice President, in the second year will be the President, and in the third year will be the Treasurer. The VP is responsible for performing the President's duties if the President is unable to do so. The VP supports the President and attends both the director and general meetings and may take on subcommittee tasks if required. The VP as the president elect will observe the President in action in preparation for taking over the Presidents position the following year. The VP is required to know the Roberts Rules of Order and ensure these rules are followed in the general member meetings.

Duties of the VP include, but are not limited to: attendance at director and general meetings of the CAVM; perform the duties of chair person of both director and general meetings in the absence of the President, frequent written, email and telephone correspondence; and act as a signing authority for the CAVM bank account(s) as well as the Treasurer and the President (2 of 3 signatures required).

Treasurer

This position involves a 3 year commitment. In the first year, this individual will be the Vice President, in the second year will be the President, and in the third year will be the Treasurer.

Duties of the Treasurer include but are not limited to: attendance at director and general meetings of the CAVM, preparation of checks, act as a signing authority for the CAVM bank account(s) as well as the Vice President and the President (2 of 3 signatures required), maintain financial records of all transactions using accounting software and according to proper accounting methods, prepare financial summary statements for both director and general meetings, arrange external auditing of the financial statements, and depositing of monies.

Continuing Education (CE) Director

This position involves a 2 year commitment. In the first year this individual will be the Assistant CE Director and in the second year will be the CE Director.

Duties of the CE Director include but are not limited to: attendance at director and general meetings of the CAVM, attendance at CE events, and planning the current years CE events. Planning duties include: arranging industry sponsorship, lecture space, catering, speaker accommodation, and AVMA approval of CE hours, soliciting and booking speakers, and taking speakers out to dinner.

Assistant Continuing Education (CE) Director

This position involves a 2 year commitment. In the second year, the Assistant CE director becomes the CE Director. The Assistant CE Director supports and observes the CE Director in preparation for taking over the CE director in the following year. The Assistant CE Director is responsible for performing the CE Directors duties if the CE Director is unable.

Duties of the Assistant CE Director include, but are not limited to: assisting the CE director with the planned CE events for that year, attendance at director and general meetings of the CAVM, attendance at CE events, and planning for the following years CE sessions. Planning duties include: arranging industry sponsorship, lecture space, catering, speaker accommodation, and AVMA approval of CE hours, soliciting and booking speakers, and taking speakers out to dinner.

Secretary

This position involves a 2 year commitment. In the first year, this individual will be the Assistant Secretary and in the second year will be the Secretary.

Duties of the Secretary position include, but are not limited to; attendance at director and general meetings of the CAVM, preparation of agendas and minutes of these meetings, frequent email, written and telephone correspondence, preparation of the Member Newsletter, attending the registration table at CE sessions, and maintain and organize Academy records.

Assistant Secretary

This position involves a 2 year commitment. In the first year, this individual will be the Assistant Secretary and in the second year will be the Secretary. The Assistant Secretary supports and observes the Secretary in preparation for taking the Secretary position in the following year. The Assistant Secretary is responsible for performing the Secretarys duties if the Secretary is unable.

Duties of the Assistant Secretary include, but are not limited to: attendance at director and general meetings of the CAVM, preparation of the CE notifications, preparation and distribution of the seminar notes, frequent correspondence by telephone and email, and attending the registration table at CE sessions.

Director at Large

There are 2 Director at Large positions. These positions involve a 2 year commitment, and these positions start and retire on alternate years.

Duties of the Directors at Large include but are not limited to: attendance at director and general meetings, and subcommittee tasks as assigned such as planning social events, preparing website content, arranging website industry sponsorship, and preparation of the CAVM telephone advertisement.
